Early Years

Welcome to Early Years- Foundation Stage Two- at Barugh Green Primary School!

" Every child is a unique child"

We believe that the Early Years experience in our Reception class should be exciting, well organised and resourced and build upon what each child already knows. At Barugh Green, we strive to give each child a safe, secure and happy foundation for progress throughout the school. Our ethos- whether it is trying a piece of fruit at snack time, writing our name or balancing on the sports equipment- is...HAVE A GO!

Setting

We have a large, busy and stimulating classroom; two enclosed outdoor areas; a smaller classroom and extensive grounds which we love exploring every Wednesday on Welly Wednesdays! We also have access to the sports hall, dance studio, library and ICT suite during the week at various times.

Provision

The Early Years curriculum is carefully planned in order for every child to achieve his/ her potential. This is measured against the Statutory Early Learning Goals at the end of the year (Early Years Foundation Stage Profile). The children will experience a wide variety of groupings and have many opportunities to make lots of new friends.

"Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships"

Activities are purposeful, engaging, meaningful and above all...FUN! For example, we have an end of topic class party each half term and a trip every term.

A wide range of experiences and activities will cover the seven areas of learning and development which are:

* Personal, social and emotional development

* Communication and language

* Physical development

* Literacy

* Mathematics

* Understanding the world

* Expressive arts and design

Every day, each child will have many opportunities to play, explore, choose, get involved and develop their own skills and understanding with appropriate adult intervention and support. Active learning!

Staffing

We have a caring and dedicated Reception team of two teachers and three teaching assistants. In addition, children receive specialist music and physical education teaching every week. Parent (and grandparent) volunteers are welcomed and we offer several opportunities for parents and carers to observe and work alongside their child throughout the year.

Parents as Partners and Transition

"Parents are the most important support for children's development"

At Barugh Green Primary School we welcome parents as vital partners and actively seek to establish a positive relationship from the very start. We offer a home visit for every new starter in July as well as two school visits prior to the school holidays. Pre school settings are also visited, where possible, by the Reception team. During the first two weeks in September, children's attendance is staggered to ensure a smooth transition from home to school. Parents and carers are also offered a school tour and can attend an information evening. Parents are always welcome, anytime, to speak to any member of the Reception team.

Please enjoy visiting the Reception class page and you will be able to share some of our experiences.
